Mary Lou Pape

Horses were always the favorite theme of my childhood drawings. Wonderful days spent on my grandparents’ farm gave me an appreciation and love of animals and the western way of life. Living many years in Colorado added North American wildlife to my artwork. With a recent move back to my home state of Kansas, I am enjoying discovering new inspiration.

I frequently travel to experience and photograph subjects in their natural surroundings. This first-hand knowledge is invaluable, providing me with endless possibilities.  I enjoy focusing on the details with a close-up view and dramatic light.

I attended Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas as a Fine Art major.  My primary mediums are oil, pastel and pencil and I live and work in Topeka, KS.  I am so grateful for the awards my work has received, including Best in Show and People’s Choice awards and for my collectors throughout the US.
