On a drive though Custer State Park in the Black Hills of South Dakota, we were surrounded by a herd of bison. With no place to go for a while, it was a wonderful opportunity to just take the time to observe our national mammal. Watching the cows with their calves, I couldn’t help but think how totally dependent the calf was on his mama – his hero.
