Maura Allen

Life and the allure of the West have long been revered and romanticized in art and literature, song and cinema. The focus of my work is the West that endures—the West we live and the West of our imagination.

I begin each painting by looking directly into the sun. Bold forms and iconic silhouettes are the centerpiece of each painting, including high contrast scenes I chronicle while on location at ranches and rodeos. I often incorporate historic patterns, imagery and illustrations—a reminder that our land and our lives are rooted in a rich history.

My work is included in museum, corporate and private collections nationwide; my painting “Belvidere” was featured on the official 2016 CFD poster.
