Oil on Wood Panel
10" x 13"
My father-in-law was many things: a surgeon, a father to four children, and a rancher on Colorado’s Western Slope. He was a man of his era, dedicated to raising his kids on the land and teaching them the work that came with it. This wheelbarrow, a well-worn and much-loved relic, was a part of his “that’s worth keeping” stash even after the kids left the house.
I was called back to stories of growing up on the farm when I found it: a rusted latticework of spokes, curves, and shadows, set against a brilliant pop of blue in the shed. This wheelbarrow seems a humble witness to its years of use, a faithful worker in both the hot sun and long days of harvest.
