Edges of Sleep

This buckskin was standing out in the noon sun doing what horses often do in July heat— teetering between snoozing and semi-wakefulness. I was drawn to the hard shadows in the neck and belly area and the sun-bleached highlights on his hips and shoulders.  As I was painting the image of this horse, my intention was to lose the hard edges of his profile into the bright sunlight around him.
