Cattle grazing in the anything- but- lazy- days of summer....nothing represents our western landscape or lifestyle better than bucolic scenes of ranching and farming. I found this scene on the backside of Crested Butte, CO one summer while driving up towards Pearl Pass to camp and paint. The classic barn, farmhouse, outbuildings and resident cows and horses could have been from any era or geographic region. If I had to guess, I'd say we resonate with ranching and farming because, whether we are ranchers or not, it says something about who we are and how we identify our selves as Americans ---hardworking, resilient, resourceful, self reliant.
