24" x 36"
The Prairie’s Edge paintings came about after doing a 24 x36 painting entitled “The Western Slope” that was fairly representational. The tree cluster in the foreground of that painting had a number of drips that gave the impression of tree trunks. I liked the effect of that and thought I might be able to push the idea of dripping a little further in a new landscape that also incorporated a lot of scraping back to the underpainting, scratching into the paint with a palette knife and that sort of thing. This is a landscape reminiscent of many of the open lands in the western portion of Colorado and Wyoming that I travel through.
