A typical summer day often includes these two horses standing head to tail and helping each other with fly swatting. I had thought to paint the sorrel mare in the instance the black horse’s tail was still draped over her nose, but the photograph that was most appealing to me was this one with the quiet expression on her face. The red-orange hues patched into the abstract design are directly related to the bright coppery tones in a sorrel horse’s coat in the sunshine.
