The Teton Trilogy

A while back I was in Jackson for a show and had the opportunity to paint alone for a week at the end of September. Though the weather was overcast and more than chilly, I was able to do a number of oil sketches and take enough photos to work from. I was camping in my car and woke up in the morning to temperatures in the 20’s, ice forming all over the outside of the car. I thought it might be an interesting idea to have a special frame made to showcase these iconic Wyoming mountains and do three small paintings that would give an overview of the area at that time of year…. when the leaves have turned and a few really cold, damp, and grey days remind us that winter is around the corner. It made those times that the sun poked through the clouds even more memorable.
